The African Union (AU), a continental organization comprising 55 member states, is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Assistant Accountant. Purpose of the Role

The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for maintaining financial, accounting, administrative, and treasury services to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and support the AU’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting and Record-Keeping:
  • Assist in preparing financial reports and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and ensure timely posting of transactions into the SAP system.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports for management and donors.

Payments and Payroll:

  • Process supplier payments, ensuring supporting documents are complete and accurate.
  • Manage monthly payroll and related staff emoluments.

Audit and Compliance:

  • Respond to internal and external audit queries and assist in implementing audit findings.
  • Ensure adherence to AU Financial Rules and Regulations, Staff Rules, and administrative guidelines.

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain updated personnel data, including staff contracts and leave management.
  • Safeguard financial documents and ensure proper filing of receipts and vouchers.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Academic and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance from a recognized institution with 2 years of relevant experience, OR
  • Diploma (Bac+2) in Accounting/Finance with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with international organizations is an added advantage.
  • Required Skills and Competencies
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in financial software, particularly SAP.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Fluency in one of the AU working languages; knowledge of another AU language is a plus.

Remuneration

Internationally Recruited Staff: Annual salary of US$ 55,174.63 (inclusive of allowances).

Locally Recruited Staff: Annual salary of US$ 22,656.97 (inclusive of allowances).
