Transforming Primary Healthcare Across Nigeria

The 2025 National Health Fellows Programme, endorsed by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is now open for applications. This initiative is designed to revolutionize primary healthcare in Nigeria through the renovation of existing healthcare facilities and the establishment of over 8,800 new centers across all local government areas. The program focuses on delivering accessible and high-quality healthcare while fostering social accountability mechanisms.

The fellowship is housed under the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office, operating within the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. Selected fellows will be adequately compensated, provided with essential tools, and empowered to drive meaningful progress in the nation’s health sector.

This 12-month fellowship offers a comprehensive experience, including professional training, hands-on fieldwork, and mentorship opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the National Health Fellows Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Between 25 and 35 years.
  • Educational Background: Possess a bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, IT, or social sciences.
  • Experience and Interest: Demonstrable interest or experience in public health, working with health-related NGOs or community-based projects, or involvement in leadership and initiatives that address health issues.
  • Availability: Commit to full-time participation in the fellowship for 12 months.
  • Residency: Applicants must be indigenes of the state they are applying for.
  • Technology: Own a smartphone with internet access (e.g., WhatsApp, Zoom, etc.).
  • Recommendation: Submit a reference from a university dean, NYSC place of primary assignment, or a respected organization affirming their character and leadership potential.
  • Skills: Show strong analytical abilities and an entrepreneurial mindset.
