The Auditor plays a crucial role in maintaining transparency, integrity, and accountability within the New Incentives – All Babies Are Equal Initiative (NI-ABAE). This position involves conducting audits, investigating potential fraud, and ensuring compliance with both organizational policies and external regulations. We are looking for a meticulous professional with a strong commitment to ethics and transparency, capable of identifying fraud, carrying out disbursement audits, and monitoring compliance with protocols. This role demands fieldwork, stakeholder engagement, and a keen eye for operational adherence. The ideal candidate will have a solid auditing background, an understanding of compliance requirements, and a passion for contributing to the mission of reducing infant mortality.
Key Responsibilities:
Disbursement Audits:
- Perform in-depth audits to assess financial transactions and ensure proper disbursements.
- Investigate specific employees or operational areas, maintaining confidentiality.
- Verify expenses by contacting vendors to assess the authenticity of claims.
- Support the supervisor and management with additional assigned tasks as required.
- Program and Operations Audits (40% of role):
- Conduct audits in the field at least four days a week.
- Provide detailed assessments, accurate documentation, and actionable recommendations.
- Evaluate staff compliance with organizational policies and program guidelines.
- Collect feedback from stakeholders, including beneficiaries, to identify gaps or issues.
- Conduct confidential investigations into staff or operational concerns.
- Review adherence to procedures for immunization, program management, and cash handling.
- Complete audits in a timely manner and collaborate with senior auditors as needed.
Fraud Identification and Investigation (30% of role):
- Conduct interviews with staff and stakeholders to uncover details of fraudulent incidents and financial losses.
- Analyze documents, dashboards, and evidence to identify inconsistencies and discrepancies.
- Maintain comprehensive reports for all audits and investigations.
- Carry out both on-site and off-site fraud investigations.
- Develop and implement fraud prevention and mitigation strategies.
- Make at least 80 audit calls per week to review expenses.
Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement (30% of role):
Monitor the implementation of the conditional cash transfer program to ensure compliance with donor regulations.
Ensure that NI-ABAE’s operations adhere to Nigerian laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Review compliance in areas such as cash disbursement, transportation, stakeholder engagement, security protocols, and internal/external communication.
Identify and report on issues related to operations and supply chain management.
Recommend improvements in protocols and employee relations based on observations.
Work with relevant governmental agencies to obtain necessary approvals and documentation.
Gather evidence for audits and ensure proper implementation of audit recommendations.
Qualifications and Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree (BSc or BA) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certifications (CIA, CISA, CFE, or CA) will be an added advantage.
1-2 years of prior experience in auditing or compliance roles, preferably within a non-profit, charity, or NGO.
Experience in internal controls, fraud investigation, and compliance management is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
Preferably based in Bauchi, Katsina, or Kano States.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
Cultural awareness and ability to work in diverse, multiethnic environments.
Ability to work under pressure and deliver high-quality results within tight timelines.
Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and operational challenges.
Willingness to frequently travel to perform field audits and investigations.
High attention to detail in financial matters and fund management.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and general ICT tools (knowledge of Google Docs, Sheets, and AppSheet is a plus).
Excellent communication skills in English and Hausa (both verbal and written).
Additional Requirements:
