United Nations Talent Pipeline 2025: Apply Now for Career Opportunities for Global Mid-Career Professionals

Breaking Barriers: UN Talent Pipeline Launches to Foster Equitable Global Representation

The United Nations Office of Human Resources (OHR) has launched a new flagship initiative—the UN Talent Pipeline—under the Purposeful Partnership Programme, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. This initiative is a strategic step toward building a more inclusive and representative UN workforce by offering career development support to professionals from unrepresented and underrepresented developing Member States.

What is the UN Talent Pipeline?

The UN Talent Pipeline is a structured capacity-building programme designed to enhance the readiness of professionals from targeted developing countries to pursue careers within the United Nations Secretariat. The programme supports the UN’s commitment to diversity and equitable representation, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 16.8, which promotes inclusive participation in global governance institutions.

Key Benefits for Participants

Participants in the UN Talent Pipeline will benefit from:

  • Targeted training and workshops tailored to strengthen applications for UN positions.

  • Mentorship and networking opportunities with experienced UN professionals.

  • Access to career pathways across nine specialized job families:

    • Audit

    • Finance

    • Human Resources

    • Human Rights

    • Information Technology

    • Legal Affairs

    • Political Affairs

    • Programme Management

    • Sustainable Development

These elements are designed to boost candidates’ competitiveness in the highly selective UN recruitment process.

Who Can Apply?

The application is open to mid-career professionals who meet the following criteria:

  • Nationality: Must be from a United Nations Member State that is classified as developing and is currently unrepresented or underrepresented in the UN Secretariat.

  • Education and Experience: Hold a Master’s degree with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with at least seven years of experience.

  • Language Proficiency: Possess at least an intermediate level of English across reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

  • Relevance: Your professional and educational background must align with one of the nine job families offered.

Note: Current staff members of the UN Secretariat are not eligible to apply. However, personnel from UN Funds, Programmes, and Specialized Agencies may apply if they meet all other criteria.

Application Timeline

Applicants can only apply to one job family pipeline at a time. No financial cost is involved in participating in the programme. Once selected, candidates are expected to commit approximately three to five hours per month for a period of three to six months, participating in both self-paced and instructor-led virtual sessions.

Commitment and Impact

While selection into the programme does not guarantee employment within the UN Secretariat, it provides a critical foundation for competitive job applications, helping to build a robust pipeline of qualified candidates from regions historically underrepresented in international institutions.

This initiative exemplifies the UN’s ongoing efforts to foster inclusive, merit-based international recruitment and open the door to meaningful careers in global service.
