The Safe AI Forum (SAIF) is seeking Research Fellows, Senior Research Fellows, and Special Projects Fellows for a six- or twelve-month fully remote fellowship focused on high-impact AI safety and governance projects.
About SAIF
Founded in late 2023, SAIF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to minimizing extreme AI risks and ensuring that the benefits of AI are widely shared. SAIF’s core initiative, the International Dialogues on AI Safety (IDAIS), fosters collaboration among senior scientists and policymakers. The organization also conducts AI governance research, advisory services, and workshops on key AI safety topics.
About the Fellowship
Fellows will play a key role in designing and executing projects that contribute to AI safety and governance. Projects may include:
- Research on international coordination in AI safety, including potential agreements and collaboration frameworks
- Development of AI safety standards and best practices to shape corporate policies and industry norms
- Research on international coordination bodies for AI, such as incident-sharing platforms and verification systems
- Support for academic collaboration on AI safety, fostering partnerships on verification, deception, and risk management
- Custom projects for exceptional candidates with strong AI safety research experience and ideas aligned with SAIF’s mission
Who Should Apply?
SAIF is looking for candidates who:
- Are impact-driven and committed to advancing AI safety through international cooperation
- Have experience in AI safety, governance, or international relations, with a proven research background
- Are proactive and capable of leading projects from ideation to execution
- Are strong communicators, able to collaborate effectively in a remote team
- Have knowledge of AI policy, diplomacy, and international governance
- Have familiarity with China’s role in AI governance (preferred but not required)

Fellowship Details
- Fully remote position
- Six- or twelve-month duration, with potential for extension
- Full-time (40 hours per week)
- Compensation between $80,000 and $140,000 per year, adjusted based on experience and location
- Hiring process includes interviews and paid work tasks
- Employment is managed through Deel, enabling hiring in more than 160 countries
