Through a cost-effective, evidence-based approach, New Incentives provides small cash incentives to caregivers after their infants receive routine vaccinations. The organization also raises awareness about the importance of vaccinations and supports vaccine supply efforts. Position Overview:

New Incentives is seeking a passionate and skilled Communications Officer to join its dynamic team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with exceptional writing, editing, and digital communication skills, as well as a strong ability to capture compelling photo and video content. This role requires someone based in northern Nigeria who is willing to travel frequently, has a deep commitment to the mission, and thrives in a fast-paced, start-up environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Communications Support:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of New Incentives’ global communications strategy.
  • Craft engaging content for the organization’s website, blog, social media platforms, and other communication channels.
  • Pitch and develop story ideas that align with key messages for donors and stakeholders.
  • Plan and conduct field visits to gather compelling stories, photos, and videos.
  • Draft blog posts, video scripts, and other content based on field insights.
  • Stream media coverage for state and local government area (LGA) events.
  • Produce high-quality photo and video assets while adhering to organizational protocols.
  • Collaborate with media contacts in Nigeria to promote accurate and impactful coverage of New Incentives’ work.
  • Develop creative social media content to engage both local and international audiences.
  • Conduct interviews with caregivers, staff, clinic workers, community leaders, and stakeholders, ensuring accurate Hausa-to-English translations.
  • Assist the Communications Associate in organizing training sessions and workshops for team members.
  • Stakeholder Relations and Dissemination:
  • Support media communications, including crisis management when necessary.
  • Help increase awareness of the program among caregivers through initiatives like producing radio jingles.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A strong passion for New Incentives’ mission and a commitment to achieving its goals.
  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, international development, public health, public policy, or a related field.
  • At least one year of relevant work experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, including strong writing and editing abilities.
  • Basic photography, photo editing, and video editing skills.
  • Fluency in Hausa and other local languages is required.
  • Proven social media expertise (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Strong interviewing skills and the ability to engage confidently with diverse individuals.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with team members and external partners.
