The Graduate School at Goldsmiths, University of London, is pleased to announce a call for applications for two fully-funded Migrant Futures Doctoral Studentships. These studentships are part of a major grant awarded by the Oak Foundation to establish the new Migrant Futures Institute (MFI) at Goldsmiths.
Migrant Futures Doctoral Studentships are central to MFI’s vision of advancing innovative research and training in migration studies, with a particular emphasis on supporting migrant intellectual and creative lives.
What Is Available?

Two fully-funded doctoral studentships for entry in the 2025–26 academic year
-
Available on a full-time (3 years) or part-time (6 years) basis, pro-rata
-
Equivalent in value to UKRI-funded studentships:

Covers full tuition fees
-
Annual stipend at the UKRI rate (£22,780 for full-time study in 2025–26)

Small annual research training and support fund

Eligibility
-
Applicants must be new or continuing doctoral students at Goldsmiths who will not have completed more than 1 year of full-time or 2 years of part-time doctoral study by the beginning of the 2025–26 academic year

Open to both home and international applicants
Studentship 1
-
Open to home applicants who identify as migrants or refugees and as being from racialised ethnic minority backgrounds
-
Open to any field of research or practice where supervision is available at Goldsmiths
-
Research does not need to focus on migration, but applicants must explain how their work contributes to their own and others’ economic, creative, and intellectual advancement
Studentship 2
-
Open to all eligible home or international applicants, regardless of background
-
Research must focus on a topic related to migration, broadly conceived
-
Proposals should:
-
Engage with race and racialisation
-
Be informed by co-production of knowledge with migrant and refugee communities
-
Demonstrate potential for social and cultural impact
-
Role within the Migrant Futures Institute
Successful applicants will be appointed as Fellows of the Migrant Futures Institute and will be expected to actively contribute to the research culture of the MFI through:

Their research and/or creative practice

Participation in institute events and activities
Students from racialised backgrounds will also be invited to participate in the Generation Delta Goldsmiths initiative.
